As goes the old saying, “My, how time flies when you’re having fun.”
After a smash show with “Mamma Mia” – nearly full houses for all seven performances with a total audience nearing 2000, we’re in rehearsals on the last show of our 2018-19 season, the world premiere performance of a locally-written three-act comedy, “A Dark and Stormy Night at the Buttermilk Hotel.” Show dates are April 25-28.
This will make the third ALT presentation of a play by The Moonlight Writers, four local authors who enjoy chronicling life in the fictional southern Oklahoma community of Buttermilk. The four are Janita Black, Mike Jones, Lou Harper (who unfortunately passed away in 2016), and yours truly. The previous productions were “The Buttermilk Conspiracy” in 2004, and “Secrets of the Buttermilk Hotel” in 2013.
Beyond Buttermilk, we’re now prepping for our summer Children’s Theater production of “Shrek The Musical Jr.” (auditions will be Sunday, May 5) and our summer musical, “Annie Get Your Gun” (auditions June 3 and 4).
For our next season, ALT’s 65th, the board has selected from among the most popular shows performed during our 50-year partnership with the Goddard Center. Look for info on those choices elsewhere in this newsletter. Beyond planning the season, we’re also working on plans to expand ALT operations in the future more with more than six productions, perhaps dinner theatre, musical revues, an evening of short plays, etc., plus more educational programming. If you’re interested in any aspect of these ideas, let us know about your interest and help us grow.
Finally… please mark your calendar for ALT’s annual membership meeting on Saturday, June 1. It’s hard to believe the year’s almost over!
