A sunny, funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise where on the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.    Auditions for Ardmore Little Theatre's musical “Mamma Mia” will be Monday and Tuesday, December 17 & 18, 2018 at 7:00pm. Rehearsals for this production do not start till Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Please enter by the stage door on the North side of the building. Volunteers are always welcome to work on sets, props, box office and other backstage areas.  Everyone is encouraged to participate.  You do not have to be a member of ALT to be involved in the production.

     For auditions, everyone will need to sing a solo, preferably with a song from the show and with the pianist.  But songs from other musicals is also acceptable. A pianist will be provided (this is the preferred option) or you may bring a CD, phone or tablet.

     Dell McLain will be directing this musical for Ardmore Little Theatre. Dell has previously directed for ALT “Crazy for You”, “Les Miserables” and “Oklahoma!”.  Dr. David Hobbs will be the vocal/orchestra director for this show. Dr. Hobbs has been on stage and vocal director for many shows for ALT. Most recently, he has done “Crazy for You, “Oklahoma!”, “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Fiddler on the Roof”.  Performances for “Mamma Mia” will be February 14-17 and 21-23 2019 at the Goddard Center. All performances are at 7:00pm, except for the Sunday matinee at 2:30pm. Set strike will be Sunday, February 24th and attendance is mandatory for all actors.

Some of The Characters:(ages listed are relative):

DONNA SHERIDAN (40-50, female) – Sophie's mother. Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Vocal range top: A5, Vocal range bottom: E3

SOPHIE SHERIDAN (20-25, female) - Born and raised on the island. A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano. Vocal range top: E5, Vocal range bottom: F#3

SKY (20-30, male) - Sophie's fiancé. Athletic, attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna's tavern and marry Sophie. Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: Eb3

TANYA (40-50, female) - A former singer in the “Dynamos”. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Vocal range top: E5, Vocal range bottom: E3

ROSIE (40-50, female) - Also a former singer in the “Dynamos” who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She's confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Vocal range top: D5

SAM (40-50, male) - May be Sophie's father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Vocal range top: Ab4, Vocal range bottom: D3

HARRY (40-50, male) - May be Sophie's father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Must do a very convincing English accent. Vocal range top: F#4, Vocal range bottom: C#3

BILL (40-50, male) - May be Sophie's father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Vocal range top: F#4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2

LISA (20-25, female) - Sophie's friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Should sing and dance well. Vocal range top: Db5, Vocal range bottom: G3

ALI (20-25, female) - Sophie's friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: G3

PEPPER (20-25, male) - Sky's friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Must be a good dancer. Acrobatic skills a plus. Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: A4

EDDIE (20-25, male) - Another friend of Sky and hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing. Baritone/tenor.

ENSEMBLE - All Ensemble Actors must be actors/singers who move well and are confident and adept at creating fully realized, strong, textured characters. The ensemble plays a wide variety of roles.
